I shot this with a borrowed Canon EOS 7D and my own Canon 28mm f/2.8 EF. I had to return the camera but I'm keeping the lens. It's small, light, cheap, and gets the job done without drama.
I mentioned a few posts ago that I was doing a small project for Canon. Well, the project is now complete and Canon has posted the results on their Digital Learning Center. It's a series of five QuickGuides (a.k.a. "cheatsheets") on the following topics:
- EOS 7D Autofocus Modes
- EOS DSLR Video Recording
- Canon Speedlite 580EX II Modes and Functions
- Canon Digital Photo Professional Workflow
- Canon TC-80N3 Timer/Remote Controller
If you're interested, feel free to click this link. For what it's worth, I enjoyed using the Canon EOS 7D I used during the two months I had it. It was a bit too large and heavy for my tastes, but I was quite happy with its versatility and image quality. Size and weight aren't that big a deal when I'm on paid assignment or the camera is on a tripod. For street shooting I simply attached the smallest and lightest Canon lens I own, a 28mm f/2.8 EF, and soldiered on. Thank God for interchangeable lenses.
Thanks for the hint on the guides and on the 28mm. I had almost forgotten about mine and you are very right in pointing out how convenient it can be on an APSC.
Great picture BTW. I like your steet photography style that at first seems sort of "accidental" but on a second look makes you realize the careful framing, composition, thinking and waiting the photo required. This picture is almost hypnotic for me. I can't stop looking at it!

Great photo and thanks for the QuickGuides.
I'll definitely print the 580EX II and keep it in my camera bag.
Now that you've used a 7D and written a QuickGuide for video recording, I would be very interested to know what you think about DSLR video in general. Is it a "game changer" or is it a gimmicky add-on with terrible ergonomics whose only real usefullness is to prepare a new market for dedicated video cameras with larger sensors and interchangable lenses?

Marvellous composition - it has a 'dark' edge to it - man walking into ladder needs transport to the pharmacy !
